A visit to ACES

ACES : Aspen Center for Environmental Studies

This is a 32 year old golden eagle that has been at the center for 31 years.  It had been found on the back side of Aspen mountain with a broken wing.  She weighs 11 pounds.

A great horned owl who weighs a mere 2 pounds.  It also has a broken wing and cannot fly.  Owls have one ear next the right eye and the other is located down lower on the left side of the face to enable them to triangulate sound locations of their prey.
The tufts on the top of the head are not "ears".  They are just tufts of feathers to camouflage their outline while searching for prey from trees.
